Brandon Leafblad: Welcome everybody. My name is Brandon Leafblad. How are you Doug? Doug Gould: Good Brandon. Thanks for having me. Brandon Leafblad: Tell me what you brought with you today. They come in three sizes. Then you would page over for the other channels — lots of mix outputs.
We just upgraded the firmware on this one so we now have 64 channels back and forth of USB send and return.
And as Doug mentioned, with the new firmware that the series III has, we actually are seeing 64 channels of audio coming through on SoundCaster. The way the SoundCaster works, is it will automatically broadcast the first 16 channels that are enabled. But now we have 64 channels to work with.
Doug, tell us a little bit about all the different ways that we can route audio to the USB in the new firmware. You can also use mixes. So, if we have 64 channels of audio but you can only broadcast up to 16 channels of those channels on SoundCaster…how are we going to be able to do that? We really have only 26 tracks on this demo.
But even 26 is more than What we do in the first example is combine sub-mixes with individual channels. Routing defaults to every channel going to USB. Then as you get down beyond the channel count…you have aux sends, effects returns, etc. Brandon Leafblad: So, in our example today we can show 26 channels plus effects returns for the first 32? Doug Gould: Yeah, but somebody who is running SoundCaster is probably going to reduce that into sub-mixes.
We have some channels like lead vocals, Rhodes Piano, strings…whatever. We just have them routed 1 for 1. If I was to control this mix, I would only get the first 16 of those channels coming into Performer.

Doug, show us on this on the StudioLive mixer how you can create a subgroup and route that to the individual USB channels. No vocalist wants to pull down kick drum and hi-hat. You can only link 1 to 2 and 3 to 4.

Many factors act upon the sampling rate of the human eye, but the processing speed of the brain determines the rate at which it can use the information provided to it by the optic nerve. Individuals in either cohort with a higher critical flicker fusion score went on to score higher, in the second half of the experiment, on tests of executive function: cognitive tasks requiring planning, reflection, and self-control.
The principle at work here is the same principle behind audio clipping. MP3s are a container that we use to compress the large amount of information required to reproduce a complex audio waveform into a format that can fit on storage media in use today.
To compress a WAV means that we use a less-exact but representative approximation of the waveform to reconstruct the original noise to an acceptable level of accuracy at a smaller file size. Similarly, the brain is receiving a less lossy data stream when it functions at a higher processing rate. We can assess the processing rate of the brain by testing its sampling rate, as measured by the rate of critical flicker fusion.
Reaction time is a manifestation of latency in the neuronal networks that make up the human nervous system. Between the point when a receptor senses a stimulus and the point when we send a motor response, the information gathered by the receptor must travel through several different regions of the brain involved in perception and association.
This creates an additive time delay associated with the propagation speed of signals down axons and through neuronal networks, and also with the rate at which those neurons can fire. Neurons that can fire at a higher frequency contribute less to that additive delay, and therefore allow a smaller reaction time.

The general time frame of temporal processing required for discrimination of phonemes appears to be in the range of 20 to msec. Of course, the exact duration of any speech element is related to the overall rate of speaking. Phillips and Farmer explored the processing disorder that underlies the speech discrimination deficit in the syndrome of acquired word deafness from pathology to the primary auditory cortex.
They concluded, the perceptual dimension disturbed in word deafness is temporal timing. Their position was that the disorder is limited to processing of sounds with temporal content in milliseconds or smaller time frames. They presented neurophysiological evidence that the primary auditory cortex has a special role in the representation of auditory events in that small time frame. Their position was similar to Musiek and his colleagues, in that abnormalities in the Duration Patterns Test have a cortical basis Musiek, Baran, and Pinheiro, Tallal and her associates Tallal, Miller and Fitch, ; Merzenich et al.
Specifically, they emphasized the role that temporal processing plays in relation to identification of brief phonetic elements presented in speech contexts Tallal, Tallal stated rather than deriving from a primarily linguistic or cognitive impairment, the phonological and language difficulties of language-learning impaired children may result from a basic deficit in processing rapidly changing sensory inputs. She proposed that temporal deficits disrupt the normal development of an efficient phonological system, and that these phonological processing deficits result in subsequent failure to speak and read normally Tallal et al.
Wright et al. According to Thompson and Abel the ability to process basic acoustic parameters such as frequency and duration may predict speech intelligibility. They stated that deficits in the ability to hear small differences in the timing aspects of ongoing speech contributed to speech discrimination errors, even though hearing thresholds may be normal.

Very little is explained about the precise construction of Fusion Audio cables. What is specified is that the conductors are not litze or solid core but rather foil-based. All 5 Fusion Audio cables came from a system that was used daily, so they were already played in. After having selected a few tracks with very different sonics on the AudioAanZee music server, I played them all for about the first half, then swapped the Harmonic Technology Pro ACII cable that feeds the Rowland Aeris DAC for the Enchanter and played all tracks again, this time in reverse order last one played, played first and so on.
Voices have more presence and rimshots are more explosive. But the plus sides of the Enchanter keep coming: soundstage is higher, wider and deeper, and the whole impression is of a much more lively presentation.
Fusion Drive Vs SSD – Things Nobody Tells you About Fusion vs SSD Storage
The music is much more differentiated dynamically, but never in an in-your-face manner. By this I mean that for example low piano notes sound more like the percussive wooden instrument that they are produced with than when using the Pro ACII. Midrange is another interesting aspect.
With the Enchanter, the midrange sounds much more real, more expressive, more intimate, but without becoming even the slightest bit less romantic. In spite of its precision however, the Enchanter is always gentle, will never shout and will certainly not punish you for playing less than ideal recordings.
Treble is also more precise than with the Pro ACII, the latter being slightly smeared but very airy, and I am admittedly a fan of this kind of treble reproduction. The cable sounds wide open. But fortunately no matter what I play, the treble is never ever harsh or forward.
But is that a vice? I think not. It does its work very anonymously too. That was a let-down. Pace was lower, the imaging fell apart and everything sounded way blurrier than I remembered it. After a while I got used to my old sound again, but it was pretty clear to me now just how good the Enchanter really is. From top to bottom, this cable sounds utterly time-coherent, superbly neutral, uncoloured and it is just as highly resolved in the bass as it is in the treble, and everything in between.
